Sher Poe Bernard is one of the nation’s leading developers of medical coding curricula and referential material. With more than 20 years of experience in coding and reimbursement publishing, training, and test development, she is an expert communicator of coding concepts. Bernard is currently a risk adjustment consultant in coding, training, and clinical documentation improvement, as well as a freelance writer. She is a sought-after public speaker on topics including coding, reimbursement, risk adjustment, and anatomy. She pioneered training labs in which medical coders learn anatomy using physiologically similar organs from farm animals. She served for 15 years as a coding content developer at a company now known as Optum360 and was instrumental in the development of the Coders’ Desk Reference, Encoder Pro, and additive features of the Optum360 International Classification of Diseases and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System Level II coding books. She was vice president of training and certification at the AAPC, where she implemented processes for content quality control and oversaw the rewrite and review of certification tests and curricula for three years. Before her employment at AAPC, Bernard served as a member of the AAPC National Advisory Board for eight years, six years as an officer. She worked two years as a senior technical advisor for the Step-By-Step coding curriculum developed by Carol J. Buck, published by Elsevier, Inc.
Pam Brooks, MHA, CPC, PCS, COC

Pam Brooks, MHA, CPC, COC, PCS is the Coding Manager at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH, where she’s been an employee for 16 years. She supervises a staff of multi-specialty inpatient, outpatient and physician coders and is responsible for the correct coding of nearly 800 million in billed charges. She has worked to develop a team of medical auditors and educators, surgical specialty coders and documentation improvement specialists who focus on coding compliance and denial management. Having worked in the medical field since 1991, she first started in a mental health billing office and moved into practice management as she oversaw the operations of an Eating Disorders practice. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Adult Education and Workplace Training from Granite State College and has her Master’s in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s College of ME. She is the currently the Vice President of the Seacoast-Dover AAPC and a former member of the AAPCCA Board of Directors for Region 1. She is a frequent contributor to Healthcare Business Monthly, and speaks throughout New England and nationally regarding coding and career development topics. She lives in southern Maine with her family.
Rhonda Buckholtz, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I, CENTC, CGSC, COBGC, CPEDC, CRC

Ms. Buckholtz is vice president of strategic development at AAPC. She has more than 20 years’ experience in healthcare, working in the reimbursement, billing, and coding sector. Before joining AAPC, she was the administrator for a five-location practice in Pennsylvania as well as being an instructor for Venango Campus, Clarion University, for coding and billing. Rhonda is a lead member of AAPC’s ICD-10 training and education team, which is charged with the development and training of curriculum on ICD-10. She has authored many articles for healthcare publications, and has spoken at conferences across the country. She is a PMCC approved instructor.
Marianne Durling, MHA, RHIA, CDIP, CCS, CPC, CPCO, CIC

Marianne Durling has been involved in some aspect of healthcare for over 37 years, including clinical patient care, insurance and auditing, creating a very diverse healthcare background. She is currently the Health Information Management Director for Granville Health Systems. She has developed and taught a successful medical coding degree program as well as a healthcare management degree program, local colleges, which for more than 11 years has garnered praise from employers and students and helped her to win Instructor of the year in 2012, and be nominated for NC Instructor of the Year. Marianne has her RHIA, CDIP, CCS, CPC, CPCO and CIC credentials and has owned a successful auditing company for over 15 years. In 2000 she became one of the first Certified Medical Audit Specialists in the US. She has a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Administration, a Bachelor degree in Health Sciences and an Associate Degree in Health Professions. She is a coding, auditing and revenue cycle subject matter expert for lawyers as well as a seasoned textbook editor for multiple publishers. She has been published in national professional publications and speaks Nationwide. She has served on the AAPC National Advisory Board, and has served multiple terms as President and President-Elect of the Oxford Tri-County NC AAPC chapter.
Jaci J. Kipreos, CPC, COC, CPMA, CPC-I, CEMC

Jaci has been working in the field of medical coding and auditing for 28 years and has been a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) since 1994 and attained her COC for facility based coding issues in 2005. She has also obtained her credential as a Certified Professional Medical Auditor and is certified in the specialty of Evaluation and Management Coding. Kipreos has worked in a variety of practice settings and has particular expertise in coding for family practice, urgent care, OB/GYN, general surgery, Medicare’s Teaching Physician Guidelines, with a particular emphasis on compliance with Evaluation and Management guidelines. Jaci has been with Practice Integrity since 2003. Here she leads a group of AAPC Certified Instructors in teaching the Professional Medical Coding Curriculum. She also manages a national client list in monitoring provider documentation and performing audits for physician practices. Jaci also provides a wide range of educational topics to assist clients in the area of chart documentation, Medicare’s Teaching Physician Guidelines, surgical coding, modifier usage and basic coding skills. Nationally acclaimed for medical coding, many have called on her expertise to assist their practice in the area(s) of physician office compliance, medical chart audits, and provider and staff education. Jaci was recognized as Coder of the Year for the State of Virginia in 2006. Kipreos has been an instructor for various AAPC workshops for the past four years and is a Certified ICD-10 Instructor through AAPC for both ICD-10 CM and ICD-10 PCS. Jaci is a past president of local chapters of AAPC in both Richmond, VA and Charlottesville, VA. Jaci received her B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech. Jaci currently serves as the President for the AAPC National Advisory Board.
Maryann C. Palmeter, CPC, CENTC, CPCO, CHC

Maryann Palmeter has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry with emphasis on federal and state government payer billing and compliance regulations. She is employed with the University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. as the director of physician billing compliance where she provides professional direction and oversight to the multi-specialty Billing Compliance Program of the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Maryann served on the AAPC's 2011-2013 National Advisory Board and the 2013-2015 Board as secretary. Palmeter was named the AAPC’s 2010 “Member of the Year” and is currently the education officer for the Jacksonville, Florida local chapter.

Peggy is currently employed by OSOI in Norman, Oklahoma as Revenue Integrity Auditor. Peggy has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry starting as a medical assistant, expanding her duties to billing and coding, and management in a teaching facility. Her knowledge is enhanced by experience in multiple specialties including OB-Gyn, Maternal Fetal Medicine, General Practice, General Surgery, Neurology, and Orthopedics.
