1G | FY 2027 NTAP Strategy: Capturing New Technology Add-on Payments (NTAPs) and Navigating Future Pathway Sunset Restrictions
This session outlines a comprehensive, practical framework for FY 2027 to maximize New Technology Add-on Payments (NTAP) under the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS), while proactively mitigating the financial and operational risks associated with upcoming pathway sunset restrictions and shifting regulatory criteria.
Objectives
· Identify emerging diagnostics and therapeutics eligible for FY 2027: 41 existing technologies remain eligible, and 19 new technologies are approved for NTAPs.
· Adapt for FY 2028 change: CMS plans to eliminate alternative NTAP pathways for FDA Breakthrough Devices, making eligibility more restrictive.
· Establish a Practical workflow: Identify qualifying technologies, updating hospital charge description masters (CDM), and ensuring complete clinical documentation.
· Maintaining Compliance and Revenue: Creating a roadmap of audit-ready processes to prevent documentation gaps that can cause hospitals to lose reimbursement
· Preparation: Equip clinical and revenue cycle teams to meet FY 2027 requirements and prepare for the upcoming regulatory changes.
