5J | Interoperability in Revenue Cycle: Breaking Silos to Improve Efficiency and Safeguard Compliance
Revenue cycle management depends on the seamless coordination of clinical documentation, coding, payer contracts, and compliance oversight. Yet too often, these functions operate in silos, leading to inefficiencies that create denials, underpayments, and audit risk. While coding is a common failure point, the broader challenge is fragmented workflows and lack of interoperability across the entire revenue cycle. This session will examine how organizations can strengthen revenue cycle performance by integrating coding, compliance, and contracting functions under a unified framework. Practical strategies will include establishing centralized, version-controlled repositories for CPT, HCPCS Level II, and payer-specific rules; embedding compliance-driven edits into coding workflows; and leveraging standards such as FHIR APIs, X12, and NCCI crosswalks to improve accuracy and speed. Real-world case examples will demonstrate how these measures reduce denials, safeguard compliance, and improve financial outcomes.
Attendees will leave with actionable approaches to dismantle silos, apply governance guardrails, and align revenue cycle stakeholders under an interoperability model that works regardless of platform or vendor.
