This presentation covers the usage of vascular stents throughout the body. We will review the history of the development of vascular stent technology, discover the full range of CPT® codes devoted to vascular stent placement, and do a focused coding note review on key anatomical areas that utilize stents often but are sometimes difficult to code. The focused review will hone in on intracranial stenting, endografting, TIPS procedures, the coronary sinus reduction procedure, stent catch-all codes 37236-37239, and finish off with a review of the 2026 lower extremity revascularization code set. We will review appropriate coding, discuss how to handle coding and claim details for procedures involved in clinical trials, and review some common denial issues.
